Let's be honest:
Most people aren’t used to having a camera pointed at them—especially during intimate moments with someone they love. It’s completely normal to feel a little nervous or unsure before a couples session. But here’s the good news: you don’t need to know how to pose or be “photogenic.” You just need to show up as yourselves.
My job is to help you feel comfortable, connected, and at ease so we can capture something real. Because the best photos—the ones you come back to for years—aren’t about perfectly posed smiles. They’re about feeling something when you look at them.
Your session should feel like you
The most meaningful photos happen when your session feels like something you’d want to do anyway—something that already reflects who you are as a couple.
That might mean choosing a location that means something to you—maybe the coffee shop where you had your first date, the trail you hike together on Sundays, or the backyard where you slow-dance barefoot in the summer.
You can also bring something that adds a personal touch. Maybe it’s a book you both love, a guitar if one of you plays, a blanket for a picnic, or even your dog. These small things create moments you’re already comfortable in—and that makes the photos more natural, more beautiful, and more “you.”
If dancing together makes you feel alive, let’s do that. If a quiet picnic under the trees sounds like a dream, bring the snacks and a cozy blanket. The point isn’t to stage a perfect scene. It’s to create a moment you’ll actually want to remember.
You Don’t Need to Know What to Do
If you’re worried about being awkward, know that you’re not alone—and that it won’t last. I’ll guide you throughout the session with gentle direction and prompts that feel more like conversation and movement than stiff poses. I might ask you to walk, talk, sit close, share a memory, or hold hands and take a breath.
My goal is to help you focus on each other, not on the camera. Whether you’re the silly, laughing kind of couple or more quiet and tender, there’s no one right way to show up. There’s just the way you love each other—and that’s exactly what we want to capture.
Let’s Talk About Outfits
What you wear matters, but it shouldn’t be a source of stress. I know choosing outfits can feel overwhelming, and I’m always happy to help with that. In fact, I’ve created a whole guide to walk you through what photographs well and what to avoid. You can find it here.
If you’re in doubt, neutral tones and simple textures are always a good choice. Coordinating rather than matching tends to look best. Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows in your body language and your face.
Whether It’s a Milestone or “Just Because,” Let’s Make It Meaningful
Couples sessions don’t have to be tied to a big moment like an engagement. They can be just because. Just because you love each other. Just because this season of your life matters. Just because it’s worth remembering how it feels to be with the person you love, right now, as you are.
Whatever your reason, we’ll make it meaningful. We’ll make it beautiful. And we’ll make it fun.
If you’re ready to plan something special—something that looks and feels like you—I’d love to hear your story.
